In the past, when spammers were fewer and the bloggers were purer, we were not afraid of unwanted visitors. Now, times have changed. And it changed really fast. I think I could still blog without the chatbox. Most blogs don't have chatboxes anymore, and interactions are more on the comment portions.
So, if you want to leave a message here, you should know where the comment section is.

Exactly, why leave a message to a third party chatbox application when a comment can be preserved in a blog so long as the blog exists. Managing comment is much more easier too as it is integrated in the Blogger dashboard (no need to login to a separate account to manage the chatbox).
I think the chatbox was a fad when blogging was still booming. But now, it only makes sense to leave a comment to a blog related to a particular entry.
