Day of Hearts (and some love poems)

Happy Hearts Day everyone! I hope that you will all have a good time with your love ones. May you be able to write the happiest lines today. Be inspired and keep on loving. The time to love is short. I am also sharing to you some of my favorite love poems.

She Walks in Beauty
by George Gordon, Lord Byron

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

If Thou must love me
Sonnets from the Portuguese XIV
by Elizabeth Barrett Browning

If thou must love me, let it be for nought
Except for love's sake only. Do not say
'I love her for her smile—her look—her way
Of speaking gently,—for a trick of thought
That falls in well with mine, and certes brought
A sense of pleasant ease on such a day'—
For these things in themselves, Beloved, may
Be changed, or change for thee,—and love, so wrought,
May be unwrought so. Neither love me for
Thine own dear pity's wiping my cheeks dry,—
A creature might forget to weep, who bore
Thy comfort long, and lose thy love thereby!
But love me for love's sake, that evermore
Thou mayst love on, through love's eternity

I recently come across with this article about Ms. Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Very nice read.

happy unimaginative, consumerist-oriented and entirely arbitrary, manipulative and shallow interpretation of romance day.

She lived a romantic life, no? No wonder her poems sound romantic.

You also seem to be a very romantic person, Lazarus. :)

i could still remember some lines from Browning's XLIII. maybe because we were asked to memorize one sonnet/poem every week back in highschool. or maybe because love is such a universal feeling - you don't have to understand a love sonnet to be in love.

because sometimes, it's the other way around.

"We are human and we need to be loved"

Love can make the soul at peace.
Love moves in simple ways
Love is Family; Family is Love
Love is God; God is Love

LOVE is UNIVERSAL and ETERNAL

Love is oneself...

therefore, LOVE YOURSELF

Have a love-filled year to those who loved and been loved!
