When you watch a lot of fantasy movies, your head swirls and twirls and then you dream in your sleep, flying over rooftops and moving objects with your mind. You stretch forth your hand to ward off enemies, but you wake up punching the air.
That’s what happened to me last week. It’s the effect of watching Heroes Season 1 on DVD. For two successive sleeps, I dreamt I have special powers. Oh my me, dreaming like Peter Petrelli!
Active evolution, random genetic alteration, what are these? Are these offshoots of eugenics, and its followers’ obsession for a stronger, wiser, more advanced generation? Can a person really do telekinesis if his genes are altered? Are there persons out there who can really do the things Superman does?
Maybe. Maybe not. There is also a verse in the bible in Genesis 6:4 “The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. (NIV)”
Who are the Nephilim? What can they do? Can they fly? Can they do skin regeneration? Think all you can. How did they become heroes? Are they like the Greek gods with special powers? Or are they mixed bloods of rebel angels and willing humans?
But I would like to believe that no amount of genetic alteration or modification can make a person fly or physically regenerate. I am not a fan of evolution. But I am a fan of fantasy movies, however unbelievable it is. It is entertainment. As to the superpower thing, I believe it is of the paranormal; spiritual rather than science. X-Men, Justice League and Heroes may have played with science to distinguish it from the magical, like the Harry Potters. But there is still the common ground: Superpowers.
So, what if I have unknown special powers? Hmmm…

for a second there, I thought you were going to branch off into a Zecharia Sitchin discussion with the nephilim and all.
swipe, i don't have much infos about nephilim so I just stopped there at the biblical mention of "heroes of old".
Hindi kaya managinip din ako kasi bumili ako nyan Season1 ng Heroes. Hindi ko pa nga lang napapanood. Let's Just wait and see.
I think, better than special powers, we should have compassion and kindness as powers, kung pwede lang sana. These special powers are of no use (or even dangerous) if they fall into the wrong hands (ala-X Men!!)
Ako naman, nakakapanaginip ng ganyan pag sobrang laro ng online games. hehehe. minsan nga napanaginipan ko rin na isa akong ninja kakapanood ng naruto. hehehehe. looks like an interesting series there. hehe.
jho, it depends. we watched 10 chapters from 10pm to 6am, tapos diretso tulog. pumasok sa panaginip mga scenes.
gypsy, we have someone within who is all-powerful.
cm, medyo bitin lang ang heroes. watch it one of these days.
I watched Resident Evil 3 a few weeks back and the main character Alice got a power of telekenesis when her genes were altered by the Umbrella Corp. Although the story is not for real, I wish there should also be a technical explanation of how those things came to be so we should have something to feed our fantasy :)
i haven't finished watching season 1 and yet i am already seeing the tv run of season 2. this is the kind of series i really want, similar to the series Misfits of Science back in the 80's (or i am the only who remember that show? hehe)
season 2 na! have been watching it on cable, pero di ako nakapag-hintay, binabasa ko na yung synopsis sa internet :) im a serious heroes fan. in time magiging heroes nerd din siguro ako. crush ko si peter, the one with the scar ha? pero i want to have matt's powers.
manilenya, ganun siguro makapagana sa imahinasyon ang heroes.
Gaw, i think the explanation is in the paranormal. not the science we know.
zherwin, tapos mo na dali yung season 1.
cess, parang di pa alam ng mga creators ng heroes kung saan talaga papunta ang istoryra. i'm sure marami pang characters ang biglang susulpot.
Yes, that must be the right word - paranormal :)
