Termites And Troubles

Daily I walk up and down the stairs at our rented apartment. But last night I refused to go up to our room. Why would I do that? You might be thinking that my wife and I had some sort of a lovers’ quarrel but it is not.

Blame it on the termites that destroyed about three steps of our stairs. If I step on it, there’s a big possibility that it would collapse. I can’t just tiptoe or jump coz I’m 40lbs heavier than I was a decade ago. Good for my honey and the other occupants of our house. They’re all paperweights. But my wife prodded me to make another attempt.

Ok, I was adamant. So I slept in the sala, particularly on the bamboo bench. I know I can sleep anywhere and I immediately dozed off within five minutes. But it’s so awkward, sleeping separately inside the same house. And the thought crawled in my sleep.

3am I rose up and made one last attempt at climbing up the stairs. I felt light but surely I did not float over the weak structure. When my wife noticed my presence, she asked “How did you manage to climb the stairs?” “I sleptwalk” was my reply.

This morning, my problem was how to get down. Oh, those termites!

Termites are hard to get rid off. According to pest control experts, they need to kill the "Queen" to effectively eradicate the problem in a dwelling.

We had a termite problem in our house years ago. When the pest control experts came, they saw that the termites came from a neighbor's house. They had to ask the owners for permission to do some digging to find and kill the queen which they eventually did. It's an awful problem to have. One good thing about your situation is that you're renting the place. It's relatively easy to leave and move to another apartment should the situation become intolerable.

Sorry to nitpick, but did you mean 3 steps of your stairs? I was just imagining a very big house with 3 flights of stairs and with the termite infestation, getting a round a house that big would really be a pain.

panaderos, we're renting it from our aunt at a 25% discount. the place is very near to everyplace we'd usually go.

nagkasabay-sabay ang pagkasira ng stairs nga apat na apartment units nya. all because of termites.

abaniko,tama ka dyan. haha.

gypsy, chemicals were already poured over the portion infested by termites.

cess, we're thinking of using cement, instead of wood.

swipe, you're right. i was thinking of 3 steps. 2 flights of stairs having 6 steps each. thanks for pointing it out.

yesterday, my father-in-law's carpenters took out 1 flight of stairs and temporarily replaced it with a steel ladder. hirap sa pag-akyat.

oh well, one man's stairs is another animal's food. :)

Maybe you could get some handy repellent from the grocery store. I hope they work.

Hello, Gaw. It's a coincidence that your topic is about termites when I checked for your latest entry. Just this morning, too. I was checking for my tripod that I'll be using for a photoshoot at Trinoma this evening, only to find out the locker to where I put my things were again being infested by termites. All of my things!!! external CD Writer, a CRT monitor, other camera and computer accessories, countless of CDs and users manuals **sigh**
Just last year, I was also complaining of termites that attacked of all my things while I was not around in my house (entry here) and now they're coming back with the same obvious agenda. Pastilan, Gaw! I was really dissappointed I couldn't get to feed myself for breakfast. Grabe...
