Why Are You Optimistic?

Imagine hitting the jackpot, or winning millions in lottery. Imagine a date with a prince or a princess, or marrying a wealthy person. Imagine a healthy and long life. Think about a successful career, and reaching the top of the world. Imagine your family in a big house, all smiles and having fun. Imagine a peaceful and wealthy Philippines.

What makes us optimistic? Is it because our rostral anterior cingulated and amygdale are working properly?

Take this from the article:
“When scenarios filled with optimism were imagined, two brain regions -- the rostral anterior cingulate and amygdala -- lit up with activity in the brain scans, the researchers said.”

Oh science! Do we really have to get an explanation for our every thought? Without a certain degree of optimism, what is there to live for? Now, I'm imagining positive things.

I truly agree! There is nothing wrong with being optimistic in some degree. That way mapaghahandaan natin yung future diba?

we are optimistic because we believe, we are hopeful and it also feels good. :)

jho, we are all optimism bias. siguro these same brain regions make us believe that something good will come out.

aryo, parang sexual fantasy na yun ah!

melai, at pag nanalo ka, pakain ha!

zherwin, ang mga pessimists naniniwala din, pero for a negative result.

what makes us optimistic?

the belief that despite all the crappiness in this world, it's just too impossible that nothing good will happen. Something good will always come out.

I didn't know it could also be explained scientifically. Hehe. :)

False optimism could also be bad, you know. I'd rather be realistic.

verns, something will come out, either good or bad.

cm, yeah science. trying to explain everything.

abaniko, to hope is optimism. even if we are realistic, we always hope for a better outcome.

I read this intriguing article too, in the PDI. Science tries to give physiological explanations for everything, doesn't it. And yet we are more than these bodies, thes shells.

i think filipinos are generally optimistic. i dont know if its because of us being catholics, but i think faith has a lot to do with it. theres nothing wrong with it naman. no one has ever strained their eyes just by looking at the brighter side of life :)

I think i am not only optimistic, I am more of ambitious, lol
When I ask God for something, I ask the impossible.
So that if He grants my request, i can assure He is for me.

O di ba, ambisyosa yun, hihihi!

Pessimism and optimism are outlooks in life...it is the life one lives. Both can be good and bad...and it's true that opposites attract. I'm naturally an optimist while hubby is naturally a pessimist. I used to always ask him why focus on the negative. He used to always ask me why I'm so positive about something. But I guess we need each other. I need him to hold my horses because my optimism gets me so naive that I get trapped in some danger...and he needs me to even out his pessimism. So I guess there's really something good in something bad. :) It's how you look at it. ;)
